Low-E foil insulation is extremely easy to install and has numerous residential, commercial and recreational applications.
Low E foils thermal resistance, water vapor retarding, wind infiltration barrier, pipe and duct wrap properties mean that Low E insulation can be used in various applications where traditional insulation is not practical. While the Slab Shield "Under Concrete Insulation" has the foil insulation in between two bubble foam layers. This protects the foil from the concrete or water - which in both cases - will eat away the foil if not protected.

  • Foil Insulation - A clean, easy to install insulation that contains no fiberglass
  • Installs under slabs, between floor joists and studs as well as under siding
  • Easy installation in framing, pre cut width, with staple tabs
  • Maximize your heating system efficiency by redirecting heat toward the source
  • Perfect for Underfloor Heating Systems
  • Quicker response time for your heating system
  • Use for wrapping duct work, water heaters and more
  • Use Low-E in the attic to maximize your cooling dollars
  • Is a vapor barrier when seams are sealed
  • Low E Foil Insulation reflects 97% radiated heat back to your radiant floor
Insulation Applications:

Besides new construction, Low-E Foil Insulation can have a variety of uses when renovating or when trying to make your home more energy efficient. In most of the applications listed below Low-E can usually be installed by the homeowner to help with energy savings. From lining your concrete basement walls and floor to stapling under your attic rafters it can help retain valuable heat in the winter and keep the heat out in the summer. The applications are endless.

PEX Radiant Heat Underfloor Heating System:

A number of foil insulation products in the Low E line lend themselves to various PEX Underfloor Heating Systems and applications. Our standard double-sided Low-E make an excellent crawlspace or under floor joist insulation, installed with or without radiant heating. Up to an r-20 can be achieved when these products are installed on the bottom of a minimum 2 x 8 floor joist. More importantly, you gain the added benefit of a radiant heat barrier which reflects up to 97% of the radiant heat back to where you want it, THE FLOOR! Mass insulations don't do this, they simply store the heat and allow it to pass slowly through to the other side. There are several benefits to using Low-e in underfloor heating systems: Superior thermal performance; high r-values; and the more important benefit of a radiant barrier. Low E is non-toxic, much easier to install, can be placed on the bottom face of the floor joists or tabbed into each cavity. Perfect for PEX UnderFloor Heating! Low E also provides an excellent vapor barrier (when seams are sealed properly.)

Under Slab Insulation
(With or without radiant heat pex):

Low-E Slab-Shield™ foil insulation was designed specifically for under concrete insulation. A thinner version of Slab-Shield™ for lightweight under concrete applications is also available. Both products give you a vapor barrier and significant thermal performance in one user friendly product. The under concrete insulation has a layer of closed cell polyethylene foam applied to both sides of our 97% pure aluminum. Slab Shield's closed cell foam is a vapor barrier and protects the foil from the chemical reaction that would occur with uncured concrete. Slab Shield™ Under Slab Insulation comes in 3/8" rolls that are 4 feet wide by 63 feet long. All you need to apply Slab-Shield™ is a razor knife and tape (Tape is necessary for a complete vapor barrier to be achieved). Simply roll the under concrete insulation to the desired length and cut for perfect under floor slab insulation.
Under Concrete Insulation and vapor barrier in one application Compare that to working with 4' x 8' board insulation and you'll soon see the time savings of working with Slab Shield™ Under Slab Insulation. Another difference between Slab-Shield™ and the foam boards is its ability to mold itself to the contours of your grade. Slab-Shield™ is flexible enough to adjust to the high and low areas helping to create a stronger finished concrete pour. Slab-Shield™ also does not crack or crumble when faced with the normal abuses the job site throws at it.

Low-E Foil House-wrap:

This revolutionary product is just what builders have been looking for. A house wrap that does more than simply stop drafts. This product is available in two thickness, 3/16" and 1/4". A pure aluminum facing is heat bonded to one or both sides of closed cell polyethylene foam, then the product is pin perforated. This results in a house-wrap that acts not only as a superior air infiltration barrier, effectively sealing up cracks or gaps in the external sheathing, but it also adds a radiant barrier to the exterior of the home blocking up to 97% of radiant heat. This results in better year round efficiency and comfort levels. Also, unlike other house-wraps or insulating products that are traditionally used, Low-E House-Wrap is totally non-toxic and it's performance is not effected by extended exposure to the elements. This product is available in 4' x 125' rolls that weigh only about 20lbs. Installation with foil insulation is a breeze, using only a staple gun and razor knife.

Walls:

Low-E Tab Insulation is designed to be installed in either 12", 16", 18" or 24" stud cavities easily with a staple gun. Low-E installed in your interior walls provides a radiant barrier, vapor barrier, and gives you an increased r-value all in one! You can run Low-E across the face of your studs or tab it in, either way you're going to get a very energy efficient design.
