Installing PEX Under Flooring
For hung PEX or heat transfer plates

When installing tubing below the sub-floor, between the joists, it will become necessary to loop the tubing from one cavity to the other. To do this either loop the tubing below the joist or drill a hole through the floor joist.
NOTE: Check your local code before drilling through floor joists.

This is only an example. Actual layouts vary from job to job.

Feeding tubing through the joists:

Drill (2) 1-1/2” holes in each joist as shown in drawing A
Feed the tubing off the un-coiler (or your helper if you don't own one) through the holes farthest from the sill plate until the last joist bay to be done with the loop is reached. The PEX should be uncoiled so that the tubing comes straight off the roll. Avoid pulling off loops that will potentially kink.
Loop the tubing around the back through the holes closest to the sill plate. Fasten the loose the loose end closest to the sill plate to the manifold supply end.
Starting with the joist bay farthest from the manifold, grab the loop and twist 180°, then pull the loop the length of the joist bay. Fasten the end of the loop in place or let it hang. Continue to work back toward the manifold. (See drawing B)

Typically insulation is placed below the tubing when done.
