Eskabe Gas Heater Features:

Does not require Electricity.

The controls are conveniently located on the top. Included is a push-button piezo igniter to light the pilot.

On the DVEL 8 - 8k btu model, the control knob allows you to select Off, Low or High heat settings and the heater will stay in that mode until you change it.

The DVEL 12 11k and DVEL 20 17k btu models both have modulating thermostats. With other brands of thermostat-controlled heaters, the thermostat will turn the unit on and off in order to maintain a fairly even room temperature. A modulating thermostat does more than that. Rather than just turning the heater on and off at it's maximum output, a modulating thermostat increases and decreases (modulates) the flame height inside the burner in an attempt to better match the room's heating requirements. As the room heats up and approaches the thermostat's set point, the heater will decrease the flame height to decrease fuel consumption and heat output. By doing this, Eskabe (DVEL 12 11k and DVEL 20 17k btu units only) heaters can reduce fuel consumption and keep the room at a more even temperature, compared to other heaters that just have on/off thermostats.

Eskabe Gas Heater High Elevation:

With the standard injector, Eskabe Heaters can be used up to 2,000 feet altitude.

Optional injectors are available for: 2,001 to 4,500 feet 4,501 to 8,500 feet 8,501 to 10,000 feet

Note to consumers concerning high elevation installations of Eskabe Gas Heaters:
The Eskabe manual states that installations over 2,000 ft require special high elevation orifices. We have found that these orifices are not required on installations under 5,000 ft. High altitude orifices cause the heaters to reduce gas consumption and produce less heat, so they should be avoided whenever possible. In these cases, using unnecessary orifices can decrease heat output by at least 10%.

As altitude increases, the oxygen content of the air decreases. To compensate for this, gas heaters decrease the amount of gas going to the combustion chamber so the air/fuel ratio remains approximately constant. This prevents the heater from running too rich, which can result in incomplete combustion, smoke and soot coming out the exterior vent.

Heater sizing should be based upon the "Heat Produced" column. In our experience, satisfactory combustion can be achieved with a jet size one larger than the one in the chart without significant sooting.
