What is hard water?
Why you need the Natural Clear S System

You've heard people talk about "Hard Water" and what it can do to your home's appliances/fixtures, your skin and your clothing. According to the United States Geological Survey, 89.3% of U.S. homes have hard water. That's almost 9 out of every 10 homes in the U.S.! The softest water is found in parts of New England, the Southeast and the Hawaiian islands. Hard Water is common in many of the rivers of Tennessee, the Great Lakes, the Pacific Northwest, and Alaska. Hard and Very Hard Water is present in many of the streams throughout the country with the hardest water found in Texas, New Mexico, Kansas, Arizona, and Southern California.

So what exactly is Hard Water? Hard Water is water that has a high mineral content. Permanent Hardness cannot be removed by boiling. It is caused by the presence of calcium and magnesium sulfates and/or chlorides in the water. Although the name sounds scary, Permanent Hardness can actually be removed by using a water softening treatment system like our Natural Clear S.

The World Health Organization has found no connection between Water Hardness and health risks, but Hard Water can create serious problems for the homeowner. The major problem with Hard Water is that it causes scaling - left over mineral deposits that are formed when hard water evaporates. This is also known as limescale. Mineral Scaling can clog and erode pipes; ruin water heaters, boilers, heat exchangers, washing machines, and dishwashers; coat the insides of tea and coffee pots; decrease the life of toilets; and leave nasty stains behind in sinks and bathtubs.

Another major concern for homeowners is that hard water does not lather with soap. In fact, the simplest way to determine the hardness of water is the lather test: when agitated, soap lathers easily in soft water but not in Hard Water. Many people complain that hard water leaves their skin slimy and unclean. Soapscum is a nasty by-product of Hard Water-- it leaves those rust colored stains in your bathtubs and sinks. Also, residues can remain in your hair after shampooing, leading to rough, brittle and harder to untangle messes on your head every morning. You've heard of bad hair days? How about bad hair decades?

The best way to deal effectively with Hard Water is with a Whole House Water Treatment System like The Natural Clear S. Besides treating Hard Water, The Natural Clear S also offers 5 other water purifying technologies including UV light and the Highest-level KDF available on the market.

Houseneeds.com -- making your life better, one good hair day at a time.
